Lionel Messi posts touching tribute to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta

Lionel Messi posts touching tribute to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta: Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi last night took to Instagram to post a brilliant tribute to teammate Andres Iniesta, ahead of the Spanish midfielder’s departure from the club at the end of the season.

End of an era

As has been known for some time now, Iniesta has a deal in place to join Chinese Super League outfit Chongqing Lifan this summer.

The 125-time capped La Roja international, who has never lined out for another club, has been on the books of Barca since 1996, and has racked up an incredible 31 major trophies since making his first-team bow in 2002.

The last 16 years have seen Iniesta go on to establish himself as not only one of the greatest midfielders in the club’s storied history, but also in the history of football as a whole.

Emotional goodbye

Iniesta’s tears on the bench following his substitution during Barca’s 5-0 Copa Del Rey final demolition of Sevilla last Saturday night left just an official announcement of his departure from the Camp Nou to be made, with the Spaniard having provided just that yesterday afternoon:

‘A phenomenon’

Unsurprisingly, not only Barcelona, but the world of football as a whole has come together over the last 24 hours to pay tribute to Iniesta, with the majority of the messgaes having come on Twitter.

However, one Blaugrana teammate of Iniesta’s who countless fans have no doubt been eager to hear from is Lionel Messi.

Messi, who does not use Twitter, has spent his entire club career playing alongside Iniesta, and last night took to Instagram to post the following, labelling his fellow Barca icon ‘a phenomenon, on and off the field’.

Te vamos a extrañar!!!
