Barcelona New Coach Luis Enrique Gets Two Year Contract
FC Barcelona new coach Luis Enrique Martinez has now officially become the club’s replacement for Gerardo “Tata” Martino.
Barcelona new coach Luis Enrique has signed a two year contract that will reportedly pay him 6 million euros per year, one million more than was paid to his predecessor.
Luis Enrique Martinez is no stranger to FC Barcelona. He was a player from the 1996-97 season to the 2003-04 season. He also coached the Barcelona B team from 2008-2011, leading it back to the Spanish second division, after an 11 year absence from that circuit.
Luis Enrique had been a favorite to replace Tito Vilanova last year but the club opted for “Tata” Martino at the last minute.
It is now expected that Luis Enrique will be able to lead the club back to the days of glory and championships. To accomplish this, it is expected that a major upheaval will take place in the team roster, with only a few untouchables who would become the backbone of the team for the following seasons.
Here is a video from the official FC Barcelona channel highlighting Luis Enrique.

The channel also has the following biographical information about him:
After starting out as a professional with his hometown club, Sporting Gijón, Luis Enrique was snapped up by Real Madrid in 1991, where he played for five seasons until, following the breakdown of contractual negotiations with the all-whites in the summer of 1996, he ended up making the surprise decision to move to their biggest rivals, FC Barcelona.
The Barça fans rapidly adopted the charismatic and extraordinarily versatile Asturian as one of their own, and in eight seasons in Catalonia, he became firmly established as one of the club’s most iconic players. First under Bobby Robson, and later Luis Van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard, he was always an automatic first team choice, scoring 123 goals in his 354 appearances and taking over from Sergi Barjuan as captain in 2002. His major honours at FC Barcelona included two Spanish Ligas, two Spanish Cups and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1997.
